Sisterhood

Welcome to Sisterhood!

A COLLECTIVE PRESENCE, VOICE AND STRENGTH OF WOMEN WITHIN THE STRUCTURE OF OUR CONGREGATION.

SISTERHOOD is the organization of women in our congregation who come together in friendship to benefit our Synagogue, the Jewish community and beyond.  We show a collective presence, voice and strength of women within the structure of our congregation. It provides the setting in which its members meet and work together to foster and further ideals of Judaism. We work to strengthen and support Ohev Shalom.

As a member of our Sisterhood, you are automatically a member of the Mid-Atlantic Region as well as Women’s League for Conservative Judaism.  You are entitled to attend programs which are under the auspices of the region (such as summer workshops and periodic programs) as well as attend International Convention and other International Women’s League activities (such as Distance Workshops and Leadership Institute).  Sisterhood dues support WLCJ, and the Torah Fund Campaign which supports The Jewish Theological Seminary, Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, Schecter Institute of Jewish Studies, Seminario Rabinico Latinamericano, and Frankel College, as well as other special projects

Membership in Ohev Shalom Sisterhood provides you with the opportunity to put your talents and gifts to use for many causes, both large and small. It will enrich your life as well as that of the entire congregation.  Sisterhood is a community building resource for the women of Ohev Shalom that enables us to find camaraderie, deepen our spiritual connection to the synagogue, our connection to one another, and enjoy shared interests and events.

To join Sisterhood please see the attached membership brochure/application, please complete and return with your check to our Membership Chairperson Idelle Wood, 48 Legacy Oaks Drive, #103 Richboro, PA 18954.

We welcome you to join our Sisterhood, participate in all that we have to offer and make new lifelong friends!!

Ohev Shalom Sisterhood thanks Darla DeMorrow for an excellent and informative presentation on Photo Organizing during our Monday Sisterhood Zoom meeting.  She inspired us to find our family photo treasures and tell our stories.  She spoke about curating our photos, and preventing photo and video decay.   Printing yearly keepsake photo books is one good way to preserve and enjoy our memories.   Darla wants to help people enjoy their photos and is certified as a professional organizer, decorator, and photo organizer.

Mission Statement

The mission of Ohev Shalom’s Sisterhood is to provide an interactive environment for our members.  Sisterhood’s goal is to build close friendships among our members so they can all be enriched by the beauty of Judaism and the strength of our Conservative Movement.  Supporting our youth and religious school enriches the Jewish education experience offered here at Ohev Shalom.  Our affiliation with Women’s League of Conservative Judaism promotes an understanding and perpetuation of Conservative Judaism both here and through our ties to Israel.  We have a special love for the Jewish Theological Seminary and help fund the education of our future clergy, cantors and teachers by supporting Torah Fund.

Our Sisterhood Gift Shop, the Simcha Boutique, which is available to our members and the local community, stocks a full variety of Judaica and gift items available for purchase.

Annually, we sponsor programs such as Rosh Hodesh dinners with guest speakers, a book review presented by Rabbi Perlstein, book club, Hanukkah and Purim programming and Sisterhood Shabbat.  Our social calendar is filled with programs such as Bingo, guest speakers on women’s issues, game and craft nights, mah jongg, canasta, art auctions and fashion shows.  We welcome our members at the Paid Up Membership Dinner in the fall, and honor our donors and volunteers at the Closing Affair in June.  Profits raised through our fundraising efforts are used to supplement our synagogue’s revenues for the support of programming and our synagogue campus.

We invite you to join our Sisterhood family.
